Being Well Together: Diabetes At Work Webinar

This event has finished

It is Diabetes Week from 14 June – 20 June, and to raise awareness of diabetes in the workplace Being Well Together are hosting a free webinar in partnership with The Diabetes Safety Organisation.

Did you know that 700 people a day are diagnosed with diabetes in the UK with 170 people losing a limb each week from the condition. It is the leading cause of blindness in the working population and poses a risk not only to an individual’s health but to the safety of their colleagues. Diabetes is often heard about in the news and many people know someone with it, but do you really understand the symptoms, what is actually happening to the body, why it poses a risk, and the legal implications if something did happen at work? Our webinar will cover these key areas and more.
Agenda:
10.30 – 10.35 Introduction from Being Well Together Team
10.35 – 10.55 Kate Walker, CEO, Diabetes Safety Organisation
Diabetes effects 4.6 million people in the UK and has implications both at home and at work. We will be discussing what diabetes is, it’s impact on health and the risks at work, the stigma that is associated to the condition and how we can make steps to change these challenges and improve people’s health and safety.
10.55 – 11.15 Andrew Lichfield, Partner, Gowling WLG
Diabetes is a serious and all too common condition and yet the risks arising from it in the work place are ignored, if not misunderstood. We will apply those risks to health and safety law. What is your duty? What must you do to comply? What are the consequences if you don't?
11.15 – 12.00 Q&A Session
12.00 Close.
