The Professional Development Programme (PDP) was set up with the aim to develop the skills which employers are looking for in graduates embarking on a career in the construction profession. The initiative ran from 2007 to 2010.
This free five day training programme is a ConstructionSkills Partnership initiative developed by the Construction Industry Council (CIC) which aims to expand the skills that employers are looking for in their staff. This programme is designed to ensure that those who have recently entered the profession (having just graduated, changed career direction or are on an undergraduates work placement) get the best out of their primary years in employment.
The Professional Development Programme runs for one full week and includes the following modules:
Health and Safety in Design
Delegates are challenged to think well beyond normal health and safety laws. They are required to understand their responsibilities in relation to their own safety, the safety of others on projects in which they are involved, and their duties as designers to those who build, operate, maintain or decommission the structures they work on.
Covers how to sucessfully deliver and produce a presentation.
Personal Development & Business Skills (including Project Management and Leadership) This section covers Work and Motivation; Communication and Teamwork; Time Management, Delegation and Creativity.
The aim of this course is to improve delegates’ presentation skills and provide a basic understanding of typical learning styles and ways of engaging audiences. The attendees will also receive handouts and publications to compliment the modules.
This course is open to undergraduates on a placement (minimum 12 week placement within the built environment industry), recent construction graduates or Professionals who are new to the industry.
