Following her appointment earlier this year, Ann Allen MBE has become the new Chief Executive Officer at the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES).
Speaking after her first fortnight at CICES, Ann Allen said: "The thing that has impressed me in the couple of weeks I’ve been here is the level of professionalism and the quality of the work that is done in CICES. It's extraordinary. I want to build on that even further with greater collaboration and knowledge sharing across the construction and engineering industries, both in the UK and internationally. We're a hidden gem."
Alongside her focus on digital transformation and knowledge sharing, Ann Allen is keen to further the institution's work on the sustainability and equality agendas. "I am passionate about inclusivity and diversity. Only by having an engaged and empowered profession will we be able to address the global challenges we are facing."
Ann Allen is a chartered surveyor and has over 35 years’ experience working in the built environment, most recently at the University of Glasgow where she led a £1bn construction programme as Executive Director of Estates and Commercial Services. Prior to this, she worked in various development roles within both public and private sector organisations, including HBOS and John Lewis. She holds a number of non-executive roles, including chair of Architecture Design Scotland, chair of the Scottish board of Women in Property, and board member of Construction Scotland and the National Museum of Scotland. She received an MBE in 2019 for services to higher education.
Ann Allen has also become Managing Director of the institution’s wholly-owned commercial publishing and training subsidiary SURCO Ltd.
