CIC welcomes new Committee Chairs

The Construction Industry Council (CIC) is delighted to announce new chairs for both its Health & Safety Panel and 2050 Group.

Gary Mees will be taking up the appointment as Health and Safety Panel Chairman.  The CIC Health and Safety Panel provides a forum for health and safety representatives who are CIC members to meet, shape policy, discuss initiatives and develop responses on behalf of CIC. Gary is succeeding Peter Caplehorn who served as the panel chair for nine years.

Gary is the Immediate Past President of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologist and has represented CIAT on the CIC Health & Safety Panel since 2009.

Of his appointment, Gary said, “I am delighted by the news that CIC Council has elected me to the position as its Health & Safety Champion. It is important that we, CIC, as the representative forum for the professional bodies lead the way in embedding Health & Safety into the processes that our professions carry out from briefing to handover and beyond. I look forward to working with the other professional bodies in building on the work that has been carried out previously by the Committee and developing the cultural change required to ensure a safe environment for all.”

CIC is also pleased to welcome Christine Leigh as the new Chair of the 2050 Group which is aimed at Young Professionals.  Christine is also Vice Chair of CIC’s North West Regional committee and has previously held board director positions for CABE.

The CIC 2050 Group comprises young dynamic industry professionals who represent a wide range of disciplines across the built environment.   The Group’s vision is to provide a collaborative forum and platform for members of all construction disciplines and professional bodies to develop ideas, share knowledge and promote advancement of sustainable industry initiatives with a view to achieving a carbon neutral construction industry by the year 2050.

Christine’s appointment coincides with the appointment of Nigel Sellars as the group’s Deputy Chair. Nigel is the past chair of RICS Matrix and currently works for RICS as Global Property Standards, Associate Director.
