In order to safely and securely manage the country’s nuclear waste, the UK Government aims to build a Geological Disposal Facility, where the waste would be permanently disposed of in an engineered facility up to a kilometre underground. This is a major infrastructure project that has been in development since 2014.
Formal engagement between the developer and potential host communities will begin in 2017. Prior to this there will be two consultations that will inform the final policy decisions;
- on the draft National Policy Statement that will create the planning framework for this Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project.
- on the findings of a Community Representation Working Group that will define the process by which the developers engage and work with interested communities.
If your organisation is interested in participating in the process, please contact Ashley Draper on email@example.com.
