New President for The Institution of Structural Engineers

Nick Russell, Director of Thomasons UK, has been appointed the 94th President of The Institution of Structural Engineers. The new President gave his inaugural address during a ceremony at the headquarters of the Institution in London on 17 January 2014.

Nick has more than 34 years’ experience as a structural engineer, specialising in commercial, industrial and retail buildings, with particular expertise in urban regeneration. Alongside advising on construction related disputes internationally, Nick is closely involved in the conceptual design of projects, sharing his expertise to help students and graduates develop their skills.

Nick Russell said:

“It is a great honour to accept the 2014 Presidency of The Institution of Structural Engineers, and I very much look forward to the challenges ahead: keeping the Institution at the forefront of the engineering profession, doing more to help engineers in small practices, and promoting the crucial role our profession plays in construction, conservation and disaster relief around the world.”

“Most of all I look forward to helping to deliver the best Institution that we can for our global membership, improving accessibility and support for structural engineering professionals wherever they are.”
