CSCS launches free apps to cut contractors’ costs

In response to industry feedback, CSCS has developed three free apps that enable contractors to use the competence card scheme’s smartcards for a range of applications including reading CSCS card details, registering details of attendees at training course and toolbox talk and time and attendance for recording who is working on-site and when. The idea is to reduce the overheads associated with record keeping and the apps mean there is no need for paperwork or manually inputting information so mistakes are eliminated and the processes becomes more efficient and reliable.

The apps can be used on Android smartphones or tablets and can be downloaded from GooglePlay where there are also short descriptions about them and simple user instructions. There is also a short video here that gives an overview of the apps and how they can be used.

Graham Wren, CSCS chief executive said: “When we spoke to contractors they told us they wanted to use technology they already had, such as phones and tablets, to be able to exploit the smartcards for specific applications that cut costs and improve productivity. So that’s exactly what we’ve provided.”
