North West BIM Hub Champion Appointed

Posted: 6th February 2013

The Construction Industry Council welcomes the appointment of Mark Stodgell as North West CIC BIM Hub Champion Building information modelling (BIM) has been in the construction press for 18 months or so but the 2016 ‘deadline’ for BIM use on public projects seems still a long way away. Many organisations are unaware that 2016 is the backstop and many government departments and local authorities are mandating its use today. Momentum is also gaining in the private sector, sometimes ahead of the Government programme.

BIM knowledge is still patchy, adoption even more so, with an unfortunate number of organisations still having no understanding of what BIM is, let alone what the Government BIM Task Group roll out is all
about.

CIC has been tasked with setting up a network of BIM Regional Hubs to help ensure that the most up-to-date and consistent information on the UK Government Level 2 BIM programme is disseminated across the UK and allow for a local feedback mechanism to the Government BIM Task Group at a grass roots level. The Hubs will be the point of contact within their region for anyone wanting to know more about BIM and will aim to help design professionals, clients, contractors, facilities managers and their supply chains in the regions with their BIM queries. Pozzoni Architects IT Director and Head of BIM, Mark Stodgell has recently been appointed by the CIC to this role in the North West.

Bringing over 20 years of BIM, 3d CAD and project technology experience to the position Mark is passionate about not only BIM, but the wider aspirations of the Government Construction Strategy and BS1192: collaborative working.

He will be chairing a meeting before Easter at the Centre for Constructing Innovation in Manchester which will bring together the various design, construction, client, supply-chain and facilities management bodies from around the region together with representatives for higher education.

The Hub is aiming to organise a conference in the summer to demystify and raise awareness of BIM in the
North West.
