The Construction Industry Council (CIC) is the representative forum for the professional bodies, research organisations and specialist business associations in the construction industry.

Review of the existing Built Environment Design National Occupational Standards

CIC as a partner in ConstructionSkills have completed a review of the national occupational standards (NOS) for Built Environment Design on behalf of the sector. We are seeking confirmation from the sector that the standards are fit for purpose and invite you to participate in our on line consultation.

These standards cover all the main built environment design disciplines (e.g. architecture, civil engineering, structural engineering, specialist design and manufacturing). They have been developed by industry practitioners and interested professional bodies to serve a wide range of design disciplines, including civil & structural design, building surveying, architectural technology and designers in specialist construction areas. These standards apply to designers who work on new build, alterations, repairs, refurbishment and conservation projects.

NOS development has focused on integrating new industry practices relating to sustainability, energy use, low carbon and Building Information Modelling. These standards will help to inform the development of skills curricula and qualifications across the sector.

In addition to your own feedback we would really appreciate any help you can give in publicising the consultation to your sector contacts and organisational networks from across the home nations.
