Paul Morrell OBE receives the Happold Medal Award

The government’s Chief Construction Adviser Paul Morrell OBE, became the seventh recipient of the prestigious Happold Medal award on the evening of May 12 after delivering the lecture ‘Can we get there from here?’ which focused on integration and industry reform.

Paul was presented with the medal by one of Buro Happold’s founders; Ian Liddell CBE in the presence of 100 guests.
Established in 1998, The Happold Medal Lecture is held in memory of the CIC’s first chairman, Professor Sir Edmund (Ted) Happold, the founding senior partner of Buro Happold.

CIC Chairman Graham Watts said:
“Paul Morrell gave a tour de force in 250 slides! A historical journey through the travails of the construction industry but one that focused especially on the optimism of the late Ted Happold that the industry was resilient and always flexible to accomodate change. It was a fascinating lecture and one that may be recalled in 30 years just as Morrell reflected on past speeches by Happold and Ove Arup. Possibly, probably, maybe even certainly, a seminal point of reference”.
