National College for High Speed Rail, Doncaster
The construction industry has always had mixed feelings about technological advances. On one hand it is at the forefront of these things – the sheer knowledge it has keeps buildings stood up, the rain out and peoples lives in.
It is the physical manifestation of the Maslow's hierarchy of needs, and has been for thousands of years. On the other hand, the industry has a reputation for looking at ‘new’ technologies with a fearful, cynical eye, always wondering whether the PI insurance covers the use of it, and who gets sued if it goes wrong. There has always been a constant battle between the old guard of pencils, drawings boards and traditional craft skills versus the new kids with their BIM protocols, augmented reality and networked society.
It is frustrating when the old ways inhibit innovation and makes responding to new social norms difficult, yet there is a question as to whether new technologies are literally messing with our heads.
The Bard of Barnsley Ian McMillian will once again join us at our conference as MC.
Tickets cost £45.00 and can be purchased by clicking here.
