The Inclusive Environment Briefings (IE Briefings), is a new CIC initiative for 2018, which provides regular technical and policy updates; with comments on key initiatives and current issues relevant to the achievement of an accessible and inclusive environment.

The briefings bring together leading policy-makers in the construction industry, access and inclusion expertise and senior industry players to discuss the key topics in an informal setting.

Chaired by Tony Burton, Partner at Gardiner and Theobald and CIC’s Inclusive Environment Champion, the Briefings run four times a year, from 9.30am – 11.30am with two speakers, the opportunity to ask questions and network with experts in the field.

The inaugural CIC Inclusive Environment Briefings start with an overview of two recently updated key technical standards – essential information when delivering accessible and inclusive environments’

  • Revised BS 8300:2018: The Design of Accessible and Inclusive External Environments Part 1 and the Design of Accessible and Inclusive Buildings Part 2 Code of Practice – Geoff Cook, Honorary Fellow – School of Construction Management & Engineering, University of Reading & David Petherick Chair of BSI B/559 Committee

  • Revised Wheelchair Housing Design Guide published by Habinteg Housing Association. Authors from the Centre for Accessible Environments give a technical overview of the 3rd edition which is aligned to AD M4 (3) Cat 3.
